Pursuit of Happyness 14
MAR 07 Honestly, I didn’t expect this movie to be this good. I thought Will Smith is gonna give some mediocre performance. I was waiting for him to “Jiggy with it” somewhere along the movie but he did not. He’s not really on my list of top actors and actress and trust me people, my list is the one that matters. Hahaha. Oh well, but he was actually very good in this movie. I can hear sniffling noises half way through and yes, this movie can make you cry. I nearly did. This show depicts life with no censorship whatsoever. When I say censorship, I’m not referring to nudity cause there ain’t any in this movie. I’m talking about the crap that life throws at you with all it’s gory details. It’s tells a story of a struggling Will Smith trying to make ends meet. And it seemed too real, but it’s nothing special cause I can bet my last dollar that 8 out of 10 people are experiencing this sort of life troubles right now. $2.31 in your bank account? I was there heck I am slightly better, I have $3.63. Hahaha But what set me thinking is that, someone should make a Pursuit of Happyness Part 2 Singapore style! What if Will Smith is stuck here instead of the US. Over there they have this shelter programme of somesort where you can line up and get food and a bed to sleep for the night. In Singapore, I think the ending would be him committing suicide… Opps I’m suppose to call it what our media likes to call it; “unnatural death.” This movie also depicted a deranged, impatient wife. If any of you guys are married to this sort of character, I strongly recommend DIVORCE. She thinks that money can come through bitching. She is only happy with you during happy times, and when the difficult times comes, she treats you like a loser. It is different if Will Smith is being a coach potato and doing nothing. But in the movie, he is busting his ass and running like a headless chicken and yet when he tries to reason with his wife, she replies with condescending tones. "Whatever." No responsible man should EVER have to tolerate crap like that. The movie does show a bit of biased, distorted views like for example, it shows a Day Care Centre ran by this chinese woman. If the movie goer is ignorant that would certainly leave a bad impression. The last time I went to the US, I saw a small private school ran by Asians which gives tuition and other enrichment classes. And the school was top notch; tuition, art materials, musical instruments… If you wanna depict a shabby run kindergarten, just show a shabby run kindergarten with no racial overtones please. Another one thing I like to add that this movie gives the message that you have to acquire a shiny red car or be wealthy to be happy. That’s delusional. Give us some fair wages, decent shelter, security, justice, affordable environment to live, a place to worship and some good people to live with…. We’ll be happy and breed like rabbits in no time. |
