No Love, No Sand
19 FEB 07

I read an article from the local newspaper about our neighbour Indonesia, refusing to sell their sand to us. No import of sand. Not even a grain. I believe, we have no right to complain on their decision because they are a soveriegn country and its their sand, so if they don't wanna sell us any, for WHATEVER reason, we have to respect that.

I thought this sand ban from Indo land (hey I made a rhyme:) will not affect me whatsoever... Come on, it's just sand- if they ban the import of say, Indonesian maids, then we will all be facing utter household chaos.

But after much research on the importance of sand, it dawned upon me on how the lack of sand in Singapore will affect us all...

Our sandy beaches will be replaced by mud beaches.

Sand is used to make concrete and concrete is used to make HDB flats. Wooden kampong style flats will be launched.

Our kids will not know what sand looks and feel like.

Drug trafficers will start to traffic sand.

Drug presentation at secondary schools
will have to be updated.

The value of sand will rise sharply making it valuable in Singapore,
over-taking the Singapore dollar and gold.

Tour agencies will see a sharp rise on Singapore tourists going
to sandy countries.

Tai-tais will start buying jewelry made of sand.
